‘Tis the Season for JoJo’s Jots Apple Watch Giveaway!

Apple Watch Giveaway

It’s hard to believe that most of us think that if we splurge on ourselves, we will feel happier than our current state.  But what’s interesting is that science over and over again has proven in countless studies that spending on someone else generally makes us happier than if we had spent that money on ourselves.

What really happens is that our brain’s pleasure sensors burst into action just as if we were giving the present to ourselves.

Ever hear about the “runner’s high”?

It’s a similar brain process giving us that feel-good endorphin activation.  The hormone that gives us this positive vibe & positive mindset called “Oxytocin” that not only can reduce stress but also gives us the feeling of being closer to the recipient.  Increased empathy and more giving opportunities can remain active in one’s mind for up to two hours after the initial gift-giving process.  This “secret” is most likely the critical point as to why gift-givers give in the first place other than the more critical factor that gift-giving is a righteous and loving thing to do in the first place!

By fully understanding the power of giving, the process can truly be infinite.  Some generous acts of kindness don’t have to include monetary value, and some are priceless in comparison to a physical gift.  These generous acts include but aren’t limited to:

  1. Holding the door open for a stranger.
  2. Why not help someone back out of a parking spot or back into one.  This act of kindness is especially helpful when the person is about to hit a concrete column, and one gets out of their car to assist.
  3. Immediately pick up something that someone has dropped and hand it back to them.  This act of generosity can be as simple as a piece of paper or a jacket.
  4. Ask someone at any front desk how their day is going.
  5. Give a genuine compliment on someone’s attire such as “Fabulous earrings!” and “Great shirt!  May I ask where you got it?”.
  6. Whether I’m at a private event, concert, or Mass, any time I see someone in need of a seat I hop right up and ask if they’d like to sit down.  Interesting fact: most of the time the person asked will decline!  Although this is typically the case, I always make an effort to ask.
  7. A fun scavenger hunt is always a plus in my day.  I like to see if by the end of the day that I end up throwing away ten pieces of safe trash to pick up.  This environmentally friendly action includes papers, plastic water bottles, and straw wrappers.
  8. A thank-you note goes a long way!  Using a sticky note is lovely.  One does not have to own unique stationery and write a long passage to someone.  A simple “Thank you Susan! ?” on a colorful sticky note goes a long way!
  9. Just because someone isn’t holding up a sign for food doesn’t mean they aren’t hungry.  There are plenty of opportunities to feed the homeless.
  10. One of my faves is when someone asks me how my day is & instead of dishing about my busy day I say “Thank you for asking.  My day was phenomenal.  Tell me about yours?” and it’s amazing how the conversation gets a considerable upgrade.

If one desires to give financially, that’s perfectly fine too!  From many gift-giving experiences these days many people are interested in gift cards.  Although the gift card may not be as personable, giving a gift that someone desires even if one does not desire to give it is even more generous! Just because it’s a gift card doesn’t mean the amount has to be extravagant.  Why not buy a gift card for $20.00 instead of $200.00 and make the gift more memorable and find a fancy gift card design.  Better yet, go with the recipient to spend the gift card.  Gifts have a price; memories are priceless!
